Finding criticism for short stories: Home

A guide to locating critical information for short stories, including both book and periodical sources.

Welcome

A common assignment for a literature class is finding critical information on a short story. The guide will point you toward book and periodical sources to help you find credible information, from general sources as well as scholarly, peer reviewed publications.

Featuring a new database

Maxwell Library has recently purchased an online version of its classic print series: Short Story Criticism. The print version will no longer be updated, but the online version carries the entire series and forthcoming volumes. This series is included in the database Literature Criticism Online.

You may search by author or by the name of a specific story. For example, search for "The Red Convertible," a short story by Louis Erdrich. Click on the author's name to find a page that will allow you to search for a specific work.

Please give it a try!
